Refund Policy

Effective 14 October 2026

Paying for CaseSearch reserves case law research for your seats across the entire billing period, starting the second the charge clears. Below you will find how we handle those payments, the three narrow cases in which one is reversed, and the way to raise such a case.

Why a paid period is not refunded

A Solo, Practice, Firm or Enterprise charge unlocks searching, querying and saving research for every seat for a full month or year. We hold that capacity for you from the first day, whether a brief needs it this week or not, and so the fee stays with us after it is taken, apart from the three cases further down.

When you subscribe, you ask for access to begin at once. A consumer who would normally have 14 days to cancel a digital service loses that option when CaseSearch starts, because checkout asks for an express request to start now and a confirmation that the option is given up.

No refund for these

  • A quiet month: the case settled, the hearing was postponed or the client went elsewhere.
  • The authorities you found did not back the position you wanted to argue. CaseSearch finds law; it does not give legal advice.
  • Seats nobody was assigned to, or that were barely used.
  • A renewal that went through before anyone turned renewal off.
  • Buying Firm when Practice would have covered the team, or a year when one month was enough.
  • Time left after cancelling, after removing seats or after moving down a plan.

Three cases where we reverse a charge

Billed two times. When our system takes the same plan and period from you twice, we pay back the second charge.

Card used without your say. Tell us within 14 days that a charge was made on your card without permission; we look into it and return the money if the account and payment evidence agree with you.

Research fully unavailable. When a fault in our own systems left CaseSearch unusable from start to finish over a continuous stretch, you raised it with support at the time, and we did not restore it, the affected period is paid back. Slow results, a single court missing from a search or problems on your own network are not included.

We never send back more than the fee for the period in question, and the money goes to the card that paid. To raise a case, write to [email protected] from the email on the account, no later than 14 days after the charge, with its date and amount.

Turning off renewal

Switch renewal off in your account whenever you like. Your seats keep searching until the paid period ends. Doing so prevents the next charge but leaves the current one in place, and part-periods are not prorated.

How renewal works

Until you cancel, each plan starts a new month or year by itself, and its fee falls due on that first day. A declined card does not end the matter: the payment operator tries the same invoice again during the next few days, and when one of those tries succeeds it counts as an ordinary renewal.

What we keep on file

We keep the moment you accepted the Terms of Service, an activity history of the account (sign-ins, searches, research saved) and the payment operator's record of each charge, including how the 3D Secure check ended.

Chargebacks

Write to us before you dispute anything with your bank. A chargeback filed against a fee this page covers, without contacting us first, breaches the Terms of Service, and the account is closed.

Earlier purchases

Charges taken before 14 October 2026 are handled under the terms that were published on the day of each charge.
