Fastcase Alternatives With Plain-English Search and Holdings

Fastcase is now vLex Fastcase, and since Clio closed its \$1 billion acquisition of vLex on November 10, 2025 it sits inside Clio. Before you price it, check your bar: more than 80 state, county and specialty bar associations bundle vLex Fastcase as a free member benefit, so many US lawyers already have it. What it does not give you is editorial treatment analysis. Casesearch is the alternative for lawyers who want to ask in plain English and get cited holdings with a still-good-law signal.

The short answer

Fastcase is now vLex Fastcase, and most US lawyers do not need to buy it. More than 80 state, county and specialty bar associations bundle it as a free member benefit, and every US state bar provides members with free access to at least one low-cost research service. The catch is that "free through my bar" no longer automatically means Fastcase. Decisis, launched by LexisNexis parent RELX in 2021 specifically to compete for that business, has grown to 20 bar partnerships including 14 state bars. The real gap in both is the same: they give you citing lists without editorial treatment flags, so neither tells you a case was overruled.

Bar benefits change: the Wyoming State Bar voted to switch from Fastcase to Decisis effective November 1, 2024, so confirm with your own bar rather than with a comparison page.
