How much does vLex cost?
There is no published answer, and that is worth stating plainly rather than filling with an estimate. The pricing URL at vlex.com/pricing returns a 404. The plans URL returns a 200 but renders nothing except the words Content unavailable. Both were checked on September 3, 2026. Vincent AI, the assistant that sits on top of the library, is sold through a sales conversation. Any article quoting a precise per user vLex figure is repeating a third party estimate, not a rate card.
The part of vLex you can price exactly is Fastcase, and the price is zero. vLex acquired Fastcase in 2023, and Fastcase reaches practising attorneys at no cost through more than 80 state, county and specialty bar associations. If you pay bar dues in most US states you may already have a vLex login you are not using. That is the first thing to check before you price any alternative, because it changes what you actually need to buy.
The corporate backdrop matters for anyone signing a multi-year term. Clio, the practice management company, announced its acquisition of vLex on June 30, 2025 and closed the 1 billion dollar deal on November 10, 2025. Is vLex Fastcase still free through my bar association?
Often, but do not assume it, because the bar benefit market moved. Fastcase has long been bundled with dues at more than 80 bars, and NYSBA, the New York City Bar, Florida, Illinois, Texas, North Carolina, the California Lawyers Association and West Virginia all confirm a member library. What changed is that it is no longer the only option on offer.
Decisis, launched by LexisNexis parent RELX in 2021 specifically to compete for that business, went from 10 to 20 bar partnerships in a year, including 14 state bars: Colorado, Delaware, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah and Wyoming. The Wyoming State Bar voted to switch from Fastcase to Decisis effective November 1, 2024. So free through your bar no longer automatically means Fastcase, and it is worth logging in to check which library you actually have before you shop.
The honest limit on both, and it is the same limit: neither gives you editorial treatment flags. You can find the case and see who cited it, but nothing warns you that a later panel gutted it. Raw access to US case law is close to solved and close to free. The citator is what the money buys, and it is the one function the free tier never includes.

Choose vLex if your work genuinely crosses borders. The corpus spans a very large number of jurisdictions including substantial international coverage, and no US-only tool matches that reach. If you advise on foreign law, run cross-border disputes, or need Spanish and Latin American materials alongside US case law, the breadth is the product and it is real.
Choose something else if you practise in one or two US states and mainly need to find controlling authority and confirm it is still good law. On that job the breadth is shelf space you never open, and you are paying for it through an unpriced sales conversation. Westlaw Advantage publishes 256.75 dollars a month for a single circuit with KeyCite, LexisNexis publishes Lexis+ tiers from 114 dollars per attorney per month with Shepard's, and both will sell to a small firm online today.
And check the free layer first regardless. A bar-provided Fastcase or Decisis login plus CourtListener, which holds more than 9 million decisions from over 2,000 courts and covers upwards of 99 percent of precedential published US case law since integrating the Harvard Caselaw Access Project in March 2024, gets you coverage at no cost. What none of them give you is a treatment signal, which is the gap worth spending money to close.
