Legora is a strong buy for a US firm whose work is document-heavy: data room reviews, contract sets, pleadings matrices and drafting in Word, especially across several languages. It is a weaker buy for a small firm whose main need is finding and checking case law, because it sells annual seat licenses on a quote, reportedly from about 10 seats, and has no independent benchmark against Westlaw or Lexis for US research. Legora publishes no price and no self-serve trial, checked on September 30, 2026.

This is a buyer's review, written for the partner or practice lead who has a Legora demo on the calendar and wants to know what to test, what it will cost, and when a cheaper tool does the job. It draws on Legora's own product, security and pricing pages, its June 2026 billing change, and what independent reporting has and has not measured.

What does Legora actually do well?

Legora's strongest feature is Tabular Review. You import a set of documents from your DMS or a virtual data room, each document becomes a row, each question becomes a column, and every cell links back to the passage it came from. Colleagues can review the grid together with cells locked and marked as reviewed. For an M&A team working through a data room, or a litigation team mapping a set of contracts, that is hours of associate time turned into a checkable table.

The Agent sits on top. Legora describes it planning a multi-phase review, dispatching sub-agents across practice areas, and returning a finished work product, and gives the example of an 82-paragraph pleadings matrix produced in about 30 minutes. The Word add-in lets it draft, redline and comment in the document where the lawyer already works. Regulatory Monitors scan published rules and flag what affects a client or an internal policy library.

The firms that get the most out of it are the ones that run many similar documents through the same questions. That is also where the price makes sense, because the time saved is measurable per matter.

Where does Legora fall short for a US firm?

Three places. The first is research depth. Legora says its research covers federal law and all 50 states and verifies each finding against primary law, but it does not claim the headnote system, secondary sources or decades of editorial citator history that Westlaw and Lexis+ carry. For a litigator whose brief lives or dies on whether a case has been limited, that difference matters.

The second is evidence. Legora did not take part in the Vals Legal AI Report of February 2025 or the Vals legal research benchmark of October 2025, which between them tested CoCounsel, Harvey, Vincent AI, Midpage, Alexi and others. Legora publishes its own benchmark of models running inside its platform, which is useful for tracking the product but is not an independent comparison with rivals. Comparison scores you will find online, such as 50 point rubrics, are mostly published by competing vendors.

The third is how you buy it. There is no price, no checkout and no self-serve trial. A solo or three lawyer firm has to go through the same demo and quote process as a firm of 500, and the reported 10 seat floor can price out the small end of the market entirely.

How much does Legora cost?

Legora does not publish a figure. Its pricing address returns a 404 and the demo form asks for your location, organisation type and number of lawyers, which is what the quote is built from. The widely repeated estimate of roughly 3,000 dollars per seat per year with a 10 seat minimum would put the entry point near 30,000 dollars a year, but it comes from third-party guides and Legora has not confirmed it.

Since late June 2026 there is a second line on the bill. Agent Pro, the more capable agent, is billed by consumption rather than per seat, with a dashboard that tracks usage by user, project and organization and lets admins set spending thresholds. The standard Agent stays included for existing customers at no extra cost. We break down both models, and what to get in the order form, in our Legora pricing guide.

Legora compared with the tools it is usually priced against

ToolStrongest atPublished price
LegoraDocument review at scale, Word drafting, multilingual workNone, quote only
HarveyLarge firm drafting, diligence and litigation workflowsNone, quote only
Westlaw Advantage with CoCounsel EssentialsResearch on Westlaw content with a KeyCite citator, plus document skills$519.35 to $639.20 a month, all states and federal, 1 attorney
Lexis+ with ProtegeResearch on Lexis content with Shepard's, plus drafting$495 a month per attorney on a 3 year term for 1 to 3 attorneys, on a store version in testing since October 2026; Pricing on request on the older page
Midpage ProfessionalAI research with a citator and assistant plugins$100 a month or $960 a year
CaseSearchPlain-English case law research with a good-law signal$49 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly

If Legora and Harvey are both on your shortlist, run the two sales processes side by side with the same seat count and the same test matters; our Harvey AI pricing page covers what Harvey does and does not publish. If research is the center of the purchase, the Westlaw CoCounsel pricing breakdown shows the only incumbent AI bundle with a price you can see before a call.

What to test in a Legora demo

A demo is a vendor's best path through the product. Bring your own path instead.

  • A closed matter you know well. Upload 30 to 50 documents from it into Tabular Review, ask the five questions your team actually asked, and check every cell against the source. Count the wrong or missing answers.
  • A research question with a known answer. Pick one where the controlling decision was limited or reversed. See whether Legora finds the right case and whether it catches the negative treatment.
  • A draft in Word. Have the add-in redline a real agreement against your playbook and judge whether a senior lawyer would accept the changes.
  • The agent question. For each impressive result, ask whether the standard Agent or Agent Pro produced it. Only one of them adds usage charges.
  • The numbers. Ask for a written quote with the seat price, the minimum seats, the Agent Pro rate and cap, and any implementation fee.

If regulatory work is part of the case for Legora, test Monitors against a rule you already tracked by hand. Teams whose main need is tracking rule changes across a policy library, rather than legal drafting, may find dedicated regulatory change monitoring software a closer fit for that one job.

Who should buy Legora?

Buy it if your firm has at least ten lawyers who spend real time on document review and drafting, if you work across borders or languages, and if you can measure the hours saved per matter. The seat price is easiest to justify there, and the per-matter usage tracking for Agent Pro helps if you pass AI costs to clients.

Look elsewhere if you are a solo or a small litigation practice whose recurring need is research. You would be paying for a document platform to answer questions a research tool handles at a fraction of the cost, and you would still want a citator you trust before filing.

What is the cheaper option if you only need case law research?

CaseSearch does that one job. Ask a legal question in plain English and get the on-point federal and state decisions, each with its citation, the holding in plain language and a good-law signal. It costs 49 dollars a month month to month, or 24 a month billed yearly, which is 288 dollars a year for one lawyer against a reported 30,000 dollar Legora entry point. You can run one real question in the tool at the top of this page without an account, and CaseSearch pricing is printed on the page with no sales call.

To be fair about the trade: CaseSearch does not review data rooms, draft in Word or run agents across your files. If that is why you are looking at Legora, Legora is built for it. For the full field of research tools, see our AI legal research tools comparison.

Questions buyers ask before choosing Legora

Is Legora worth it for a small law firm?

Usually not if research is the main need. Legora sells annual seat licenses on a quote, with a reported 10 seat minimum, and its strengths are document review and drafting at scale. A small firm that mainly needs cited case law gets more value from a published-price research tool.

Is Legora better than Harvey?

Neither is better across the board, and no independent benchmark has tested both on the same tasks. Legora is known for Tabular Review and multilingual, cross-border work; Harvey for large firm drafting and litigation workflows. Both are quote only, so the practical test is two written quotes and the same test matters.

Does Legora have a free trial?

Legora does not advertise a self-serve free trial. The route in is a demo booked on its website, followed by a sales-led evaluation, so ask whether a pilot on your own documents is available before you commit to seats.

Does Legora train on client data?

No, according to Legora. Its security page says it will not use customer data to train or fine tune any AI models, and it lists ISO 42001, ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2, with single sign-on and customer-managed encryption keys.

Can Legora replace Westlaw or Lexis?

Not for most US litigators. Legora covers federal and state primary law and verifies findings against sources, but it does not offer the secondary sources and editorial citator of Westlaw or Lexis+. Most firms that buy Legora keep an incumbent research service alongside it.
