How much does Westlaw CoCounsel cost?

For one attorney, Westlaw with CoCounsel costs 415.35 dollars a month with single circuit coverage on a three year term and 519.35 dollars a month with all states and federal coverage on the same term. On a one year term those rise to 511.20 and 639.20. The two year term sits between, at 447.30 and 559.30. Thomson Reuters labels the longer terms 12 percent off and 18 percent off; the configured figures work out to 12.5 and 18.75 percent.

In yearly terms, one attorney on single circuit pays 4,984.20 dollars a year on the three year plan and 6,134.40 on the one year plan. All states and federal is 6,232.20 or 7,670.40 a year. Across a full three year contract the all states bundle commits you to 18,696.60 dollars and the single circuit bundle to 14,952.60. That total, not the monthly figure, is what you are signing.

The product is sold as a single plan per jurisdiction. There is no menu of CoCounsel tiers inside it: you choose sector, attorney count and jurisdiction, and the configurator returns one plan, Westlaw Advantage with CoCounsel Essentials, with a Go to checkout button and the line No Negotiation Needed.

How much does CoCounsel add to a Westlaw subscription?

Less than most articles on this search suggest, and the amount depends on your coverage. Subtract the Westlaw Advantage price from the bundle price for the same configuration and CoCounsel Essentials costs 71.50 dollars a month at all states and federal on a three year term, 77.00 on two years and 88.00 on one year.

At single circuit the premium is larger, not smaller: 126.75 dollars a month on three years, 136.50 on two and 156.00 on one. So the cheaper Westlaw plan carries the more expensive AI. A solo who only needs one circuit pays 44 percent more for the bundle than for Advantage alone, while an all states firm pays 16 percent more.

The premium also scales with headcount. For two attorneys on all states and federal it is 179.40 dollars a month on three years and 220.80 on one year, roughly 90 to 110 dollars per lawyer. Price your real attorney count rather than doubling the solo figure.

Single circuit, 3 years

What does CoCounsel Essentials include?

The plan page lists nineteen CoCounsel Essentials skills. For document work: Review Documents, Compare Documents, Summarize, Timeline, Analyze Document for Errors and Prepare for a Deposition. For drafting: Draft, Draft and Modify contract clauses, Contract Policy Compliance, Contract Playbooks and Contract Comparison with Deviation Detection, and Update Contract Terms from a Term Sheet. For research and citations: Browse Library, Knowledge Search, Search a Database, Find a Starting Point, Finalize Citations, Quick Check integration and Add KeyCite Flags. Agentic Workflows sits on top.

Westlaw Advantage, the research half, carries Deep Research, the Litigation Document Analyzer, litigation analytics, Claims Explorer, AI Jurisdictional Surveys, statutes and regulations compare, KeyCite, the West Key Number System, headnotes, caselaw and statutes.

Read together, the split is clear. Advantage already does the research, including agentic Deep Research. CoCounsel Essentials adds the work you do on your own documents: summarizing a production, building a chronology, preparing deposition outlines and reviewing contracts. If your practice is mostly transactional drafting or document review, that is where the 71.50 dollars goes.

Is Westlaw Precision with CoCounsel still sold?

Not under that name online. Westlaw Precision with CoCounsel was the bundle Thomson Reuters marketed before Westlaw Advantage launched on August 13, 2025 as the successor to Westlaw Precision. We found no online plans page for Precision; the Westlaw and CoCounsel combination the Thomson Reuters store sells to small firms today is Westlaw Advantage with CoCounsel Essentials.

If you hold a Precision with CoCounsel contract, your renewal will be priced against the current products. Existing customers do not get online pricing and are sent to 888-728-7677, option 2, but the published bundle figures above are the benchmark to bring into that call. Ask for the renewal price of the Advantage bundle at your jurisdiction and headcount, and compare it with the configurator number for a new customer.

Is Westlaw CoCounsel cheaper than CoCounsel Legal or Lexis+ with Protege?

CoCounsel Legal is the larger CoCounsel product, sold on its own plans page with its own configurator for firms of 1 to 10 attorneys, and it adds agentic workflows and Deep Research grounded in Westlaw and Practical Law. The Advantage bundle is the cheaper way to get CoCounsel together with a full Westlaw research subscription, because the research is priced in rather than bought twice.

Lexis+ with Protege, the LexisNexis equivalent, now has a price for firms of one to three attorneys on a store version LexisNexis began testing in October 2026: Protege Assistant with Lexis Complete at 495 dollars per attorney per month on a three year term, or 660 on one year. Other visitors still see Pricing on request, and firms of four or more attorneys request pricing. The four Lexis+ tiers you can buy online, from 114 to 324 dollars per attorney per month on a three year term, do not include the Protege assistant. On its Nexis business side, the assistant adds 593 dollars per seat per month.

On price visibility, then, Thomson Reuters is still ahead: every solo can see the full cost of Westlaw plus generative AI before speaking to anyone, while the LexisNexis equivalent shows a price only to visitors who get its new store version.

Is Westlaw CoCounsel worth it for a small firm?

It is worth it when you would use the document skills every week. A litigation shop that summarizes productions, builds chronologies and prepares deposition outlines will recover 71.50 dollars a month in the first hour saved. The independent evidence supports the document side: in the Vals Legal AI Report published in February 2025, CoCounsel scored 89.6 percent on Document Q&A and posted the top Document Summarization score of 77.2 percent, averaging 79.5 percent across the four tasks it entered.

It is harder to justify when what you mostly need is the controlling case on a narrow question. Advantage alone already includes the research tools, and Westlaw Edge with AI-Assisted Research starts at 170.95 dollars a month at single circuit. A three year bundle at 14,952.60 dollars is a large commitment for document skills you would open a few times a month.

For the everyday research question, which decisions control and whether they still stand, CaseSearch answers it directly. You ask in plain English and get the on-point decisions with citations, the holding in plain language and a good-law signal, for 49 dollars a month month to month or 24 a month billed yearly, with no multi-year term. It does not replace Westlaw, KeyCite or CoCounsel document review, and a firm that lives in Westlaw should buy Westlaw. For the research you actually run, it is a price you can cancel.

Frequently asked

Questions buyers ask about westlaw cocounsel

How much is Westlaw with CoCounsel per month?

For one attorney, 415.35 dollars a month with single circuit coverage on a three year term, or 511.20 on one year. All states and federal coverage costs 519.35 dollars a month on three years or 639.20 on one year. Those are the Thomson Reuters configurator prices for Westlaw Advantage with CoCounsel Essentials, new customers at firms of up to 10 attorneys, read on September 21, 2026.

Is CoCounsel included in Westlaw Advantage?

No. Westlaw Advantage on its own includes Deep Research, the Litigation Document Analyzer and AI Jurisdictional Surveys, but not CoCounsel. CoCounsel Essentials comes in a separate bundle, Westlaw Advantage with CoCounsel Essentials, which costs 71.50 dollars a month more at all states and federal on a three year term.

Can I buy CoCounsel without Westlaw?

Yes. Thomson Reuters sells CoCounsel Essentials and CoCounsel Legal on their own plans pages, each with a configurator for firms of 1 to 10 attorneys. The Westlaw bundle is the route if you also want the Westlaw research library, KeyCite and Deep Research in one contract.

Does Westlaw CoCounsel have a free trial?

The bundle plans page offers no trial button; it shows the configured price and a checkout. Thomson Reuters runs a separate Westlaw trial through its sales team. Access after purchase is typically within one business day, so test your own documents early in the contract.

Do existing Westlaw customers get the online CoCounsel price?

No. Online pricing is for new customers only. Existing customers are directed to 888-728-7677, option 2, or the Contact Us form. The published figures are still the best benchmark for an upgrade or renewal conversation.

Which is cheaper for CoCounsel, single circuit or all states?

Single circuit has the lower total, 415.35 dollars a month on three years against 519.35. But the CoCounsel share is higher on single circuit, 126.75 dollars a month against 71.50, so the all states bundle is the better value for the AI itself.

How much does Westlaw AI cost?

Online, for one attorney on a three year term, Westlaw's generative AI starts with Westlaw Edge with AI-Assisted Research at 170.95 dollars a month for a single circuit, about 85 dollars more than the same Edge plan without it. Westlaw Advantage, which adds Deep Research, starts at 288.60, and Advantage with CoCounsel Essentials at 415.35, where CoCounsel itself accounts for 71.50 to 126.75 a month.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Westlaw CoCounsel for case law research?

Within Westlaw, Edge with AI-Assisted Research starts at 170.95 dollars a month and plain Edge at 107.25. Outside it, Lexis+ Essential starts at 114 dollars per attorney on three years, and CaseSearch answers case law questions with cited decisions and a good-law signal for 49 dollars month to month or 24 a month billed yearly.
