The short answer

Alexi does not publish a price. Its own FAQ says pricing "is based on firm size and deployment mode" and sends buyers to sales, and the old alexi.com/pricing address now opens the homepage. Access starts with a guided trial booked through a consultation, and evaluations typically run about 30 days. Alexi is built for mid-size and large firms that want a private, single-tenant AI instance. For case law research alone, published alternatives run from 24 dollars a month (CaseSearch, billed yearly) to 100 dollars (Midpage, monthly).

How much does Alexi cost?

There is no number to quote, because Alexi does not publish one. Its FAQ answers the pricing question in one line, "Pricing is based on firm size and deployment mode. Speak to our Sales team for more information." Every buying path on alexi.com ends at the same place, a form to book a consultation that leads to a guided trial, and the address that used to hold a pricing page now loads the homepage.

Deployment mode is the part that moves the number. Alexi sells itself as a private, single-tenant AI engine: each firm that chooses the private cloud option gets its own isolated instance, with its own retrieval, workflows and memory, connected to systems like iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint and Outlook. That is an enterprise software sale, priced the way enterprise software usually is, around seats, integrations and implementation support rather than a card on a pricing page.

You will find per seat ranges on third-party software directories, and they disagree with each other. None of them traces back to a document Alexi published, so treat them as guesses and ask for a written quote instead.

Published price

None. Quote by firm size and deployment mode.

Route to buy

Evaluation

Typically around 30 days, per Alexi's FAQ.

Who is Alexi built for?

By its own description, mid-size and large law firms. Alexi's FAQ names the buyers as CIOs and CTOs, knowledge management leaders, innovation teams, practice group leaders and managing partners, and lists what those firms need: strict governance and data control, firm-specific drafting standards, deep integration with the document management system, and consistency across offices. Firms usually pilot with one group, often litigation or corporate, and expand from there.

The company is headquartered in Toronto and says it has customers across the US, Canada and international markets, with coverage of all legal jurisdictions in both countries. The logos on its homepage are mostly Canadian firms, with Dentons the largest name. Alexi started in 2017 as a research memo generator and now sells research, drafting, summarization, intake, document extraction and no-code workflows on one platform.

That positioning matters for a US solo or a five lawyer litigation shop. A product designed around a private instance, DMS connectors and a customer success manager is priced for a firm that needs those things. If what you need is the right cases for next week's motion, you are paying for a lot of platform you will not use.

Primary buyers

CIOs, KM leaders, practice group heads, managing partners.

Coverage

All US and Canadian jurisdictions.

Integrations

iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook.

Is Alexi good for legal research?

On the only independent test that exists, yes, roughly as good as the other AI research tools that agreed to be measured. In the Vals AI legal research benchmark published in October 2025, Alexi scored 80 percent on accuracy, against 81 for Counsel Stack, 79 for Midpage and 80 for ChatGPT, while lawyers answering the same questions averaged 71. On multi-jurisdiction questions, where every product scored lower, Alexi and Counsel Stack tied for the best result.

Read the study for what it leaves out as well. Thomson Reuters and LexisNexis did not take part, vLex withdrew before publication, and Vals noted that it has a customer relationship with one or more participants. The study also found that the tools struggled with 50-state surveys; Vals reported that Alexi did not attempt to source the primary law for every state on that question. Its own homepage claims a tie for first in single-jurisdiction legal analysis accuracy, which is consistent with those results.

The practical takeaway is that the accuracy gap between the measured AI research tools is small. The real differences are price, how you buy, and what else comes bundled with the research.

Accuracy

Alexi 80%, Counsel Stack 81%, Midpage 79%, lawyers 71%.

Weak spot

50-state surveys, for every product tested.

Missing from the test

Westlaw, Lexis+ and vLex.

Does Alexi offer a free trial?

Alexi offers a guided trial, not a self-serve one. You book a short walkthrough with its team, and it sets up trial access tailored to your practice so you can ask real legal questions and test your workflows over a few days. There is no signup button that drops you into the product without a call.

If you take the trial, run it like an evaluation rather than a demo. Bring three questions your firm actually answered last month, with the answer you know is right. Time each one, open every case it cites, and check that each decision is still good law. Then ask for the quote in writing with seat count, term length, the deployment option it assumes, implementation fees and the renewal increase cap.

Trial type

Guided, booked through a consultation.

What to test

Three real questions with known answers.

What to get in writing

Seats, term, deployment, fees, renewal cap.

What is a cheaper alternative to Alexi for case law research?

If you only need research, buy a research tool with a public price. Midpage, which scored within a point of Alexi in the Vals study, costs 100 dollars per user a month or 80 billed yearly, with a two week trial. Westlaw Advantage sells online to firms of up to ten attorneys from 288.60 dollars a month for one attorney on a single circuit with a three year term. Lexis+ without the AI assistant starts at 114 dollars per attorney a month on a three year term in the LexisNexis store.

CaseSearch is the narrowest and cheapest of these. Ask a legal question in plain English and get the on-point decisions from the Supreme Court, the federal circuits and state appellate courts, each with its citation, the holding in plain language and a signal showing whether it is still good law. It costs 49 dollars a month, or 24 a month billed yearly, with no sales call and no multi-year term, and one real question runs with no account.

It is not a firm-wide AI platform. It does not draft, connect to your DMS or build workflows, and it is not legal advice. For a litigator who wants the controlling cases quickly and verifiably, that is usually the part of an Alexi quote worth paying for.

Midpage

$100 a month, or $80 billed yearly.

Westlaw Advantage

From $288.60 a month on a 3 year term.

CaseSearch

$49 a month, or $24 billed yearly.

Alexi vs CaseSearch for a US litigation practice

Choose Alexi if you are a mid-size or large firm that wants one governed AI environment across practice groups, with firm precedent, templates and the DMS wired in, and you have a KM or innovation team to run it. The private instance and integrations are the product, and the quote will reflect that.

Choose CaseSearch if the job is finding and verifying case law, you are a solo or a small team, and you want a published price you can start on today. You can also run both: firms that license a platform for drafting and knowledge management often keep a lightweight research tool for the lawyers who only need cases.

Alexi

Private firm-wide AI, quote only.

CaseSearch

Case law research, $24 to $49 a month.

Both

Platform for KM, research tool for case law.
