Midpage figures read from midpage.ai/pricing on September 29, 2026, monthly and annual toggles both checked. Westlaw and Lexis+ figures are the vendors' own online store rates for one attorney, read in September 2026. Paxton and StrongSuit figures from their own pricing pages.
| Tool and plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing | Trial |
|---|---|---|---|
| Midpage Professional | $100 per seat | $80 a month, $960 a year | Two weeks, no sales call |
| Midpage Law Student | $25 (students and faculty only) | Not offered on the page | Two weeks |
| Westlaw Edge, one state, no AI | $132 on a 1 year term | $107.25 a month on a 3 year term | 7 days |
| Lexis+ Essential, no AI assistant | $152 on a 1 year term | $114 a month on a 3 year term | Promotional, 2 to 30 days |
| StrongSuit (formerly Callidus AI), Individual | $249 | Not published | 5 days |

Westlaw and Lexis+ are sold on term contracts, so their monthly figures are commitments, not month to month prices. Annual totals and percentages are our arithmetic. Prices before tax. CaseSearch is a research tool, not legal advice.
How much does Midpage cost?
Midpage sells one paid plan to practicing lawyers. Professional is 100 dollars per seat per month when you pay monthly, and 80 dollars a month when you pay for a year up front. The annual option is billed as a single 960 dollar charge per seat, before tax, so a solo who commits for twelve months saves 240 dollars against paying month by month.
The second plan is Law Student, at 25 dollars a month for law students and faculty. Midpage requires proof of current enrollment or employment at a US law school, so it is not a back door for a small firm. Larger organizations are routed to a contact sales form for custom terms.
That is the whole rate card, and it fits on one screen. Compared with the multi-year store terms at Westlaw and LexisNexis, or the quote-only pricing at CoCounsel, Clio Work and Harvey, it is refreshingly plain. The catch is in the details the page does not quantify, which the sections below cover.
Professional, monthly
$100 per seat per month.
Professional, annual
$80 a month, charged as $960 per seat per year.
Law Student
$25 a month, US law school students and faculty only.
Enterprise
Contact sales. No published figure.
What do you get with Midpage Professional?
The Professional plan lists four groups of features. Under research, it includes full coverage, manual research tools, agentic research tools and an AI citator. Under connections, it includes plugins and agentic PACER access. AI research usage is listed as unlimited, and team billing and single sign-on are included for firms that buy more than one seat.
The plugins are the unusual part. Midpage runs its research inside ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity as well as in its own app, so a lawyer who already drafts in one of those assistants can pull cited case law into the same window. Midpage says it covers all federal case law, case law from the 50 states and D.C., and federal and state statutes and regulations, and says it holds SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA attestations.
Two limits are printed in the small type. The unlimited AI usage carries an asterisk: Midpage reserves the right to suspend accounts with abnormally high usage indicative of abuse. And neither Professional nor Law Student includes API access; programmatic access to the Midpage database is a separate data product for legal tech companies.
Research
Manual and agentic research tools, full coverage.
Citator
AI citator included on both plans.
Connections
Plugins for ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, agentic PACER access.
Not included
API access, on any self-serve plan.
Does Midpage have a free trial?
Yes. The pricing page says it plainly: "No sales call required, and your first two weeks are on us." You create an account from the Get started button and the trial begins the same day. That makes Midpage one of three legal AI tools we checked with a true self-serve trial, alongside Clio Work at 14 days and Paxton at 7 days.
Two weeks is enough time to test it on real work if you plan the trial before you start. Take three questions you have already researched and closed, where you know which decisions ended up controlling, and run them through the agentic research tools. Then check every citation it returns against the opinion itself, and run the AI citator on a case you know has been limited or overruled. That tells you more than a month of casual use.
Trial length
Two weeks.
Sales call
Not required.
Test with
Three closed matters where you know the answer.
Check
Every citation, plus the citator on a known bad case.
Does Midpage charge for PACER documents?
The pricing page lists agentic PACER access as a Professional feature and does not say how PACER's own fees are handled. That matters, because PACER charges 10 cents per page, capped at 3 dollars per document for most filings, and waives the bill only when a user's charges stay at 30 dollars or less in a quarter. A firm that pulls dockets and filings every week can pass that threshold quickly.
Before you rely on the PACER connection, ask Midpage in writing whether document fees are billed to your own PACER account, absorbed by Midpage, or passed through on your invoice. If the answer is your own account, budget for it on top of the 100 dollar seat. If your practice needs docket monitoring more than research, a dedicated docket tool may be the better purchase.
PACER rate
10 cents per page, most documents capped at $3.
PACER waiver
Charges of $30 or less per quarter are waived.
Midpage page
Lists agentic PACER access, no fee detail.
Ask
Who pays the PACER fees, in writing.
How does Midpage pricing compare with Westlaw and Lexis?
Midpage is cheaper at every term length, and far more flexible. The lowest Westlaw price sold online, Westlaw Edge for one state, is 107.25 dollars a month, but only on a three year contract; the one year rate is 132 dollars. Lexis+ Essential is 114 dollars a month on three years or 152 on one. Neither of those entry plans includes the vendor's generative AI. Midpage charges 100 dollars a month with no term at all, or 80 on a single year.
What the incumbents still offer is depth. Westlaw has KeyCite and its headnote system, Lexis+ has Shepard's, and both carry secondary sources and practice material that Midpage does not claim. Among the newer AI tools, Midpage sits near the bottom of the price range: StrongSuit, the platform formerly called Callidus AI, charges 249 dollars a month for an individual, and Paxton charges 499 a month or 2,999 a year.
On quality, Midpage took part in the Vals legal research benchmark published in October 2025, alongside Alexi, Counsel Stack and ChatGPT. The participating tools scored between 79 and 81 percent, against a lawyer baseline of 71 percent. Westlaw and LexisNexis did not take part, so there is no head to head score against them.
Midpage
$100 monthly, no term, or $960 a year.
Westlaw Edge, one state
$107.25 on 3 years, $132 on 1 year, no AI.
Lexis+ Essential
$114 on 3 years, $152 on 1 year, no AI.
Independent test
Vals, October 2025: 79 to 81% for the tools tested, lawyers 71%.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Midpage for case law research?
Yes, if the job is narrower than what Midpage sells. Midpage bundles research, drafting help, assistant plugins and PACER access into a 100 dollar seat. Many solo and small firm lawyers use a fraction of that: they need to find the decisions that control a question and know those decisions still stand.
CaseSearch does that one job. You ask a legal question in plain English and get the on-point federal and state decisions with citations, the holding in plain language and a good-law signal. It costs 49 dollars a month month to month, or 24 a month billed yearly, which is 288 dollars a year against 960 for Midpage annual. You can run one real question on the demo with no account before you pay anything.
CaseSearch does not draft, does not connect to PACER and does not run inside ChatGPT or Claude. If those are the reasons you are looking at Midpage, Midpage is the better fit. If you are paying for them and not using them, the research question costs half as much here.
